The One Day Project
Labor day weekend is always a good time for me because it is the weekend of my birthday. This year so far I’ve had a good birthday weekend. Yesterday I ate dinner with my family and had a great time with everyone. Later in the evening I met up with some friends, some from in town and some from out of town, and we drank until the wee hours of the morning. I had an early morning meeting scheduled with a new company that I’m helping get started. I woke up a little late and was trying to get ready in a hurry. I packed up my laptop and jumped in the car. On the way I decided to call ahead to let my business partner know I was running late when he told me that he was going to be tied up for most of the morning…which was perfect for me. I then decided to get some food, since I was out, and came back home with nothing to do for this labor day weekend.
The birth of The One Day Project.
I have been redesigning my personal website/blog for over six months now and could never come up with a design that I was really happy with and that was fully scalable. I have spent a lot of time working on Usability, Accessibility, and SEO at work these past few weeks so I’m kind of on a kick when it comes to making sites work as cleanly as possible.
The title “All Things That Are Good” came from a British television show that featured a character called Old Gregg. It was a really funny/creepy skit that involves a “Scaly man-fish” named Old Gregg. In the skit he kidnaps a guy by showing him his man-gina and once in his cave, or Gregg’s Place, Gregg tried to get his captor to fall in love with him offering him “All things that are good.” I checked to see if the domain was free and another $10 was spent on a domain that I will hopefully use frequently.
What is the project all about?
The one day project is more of a personal test to see if I can create a website that will have a clean look and feel, minimalistic, easy to update, and easy for you to read and resize. I think with how things are going so far this site will have been created from start to finish in under 2 hours…with a slight break for more food.
The on-going plan
After the site is initially created I am hoping to get some of my friends to help me post original content to the site. I am not going to make this site another CSS website, but more of a place to show off cool things and talk about new technology. I love contemporary design and I am sure that I will find a way to squeeze some of the special goodness in as well.
